Code of Conduct
The Compliance Society of Kenya (CSK) Code of Conduct establishes the professional and ethical standards expected of all members, applicants, and participants. This Code reflects our commitment to integrity, professionalism, and excellence in compliance practice within the financial services sector.

1. Purpose and Scope
This Code of Conduct serves to guide the professional behavior and ethical conduct of CSK members in their dealings with the Society, fellow members, employers, clients, regulators, and the public. It applies to all members regardless of membership category and extends to all interactions within CSK activities, events, and online platforms.
Adherence to this Code is a fundamental condition of CSK membership and reflects our collective commitment to upholding the highest standards of compliance practice.
2. Core Professional Values
CSK members are expected to embody and demonstrate the following core values:
Integrity
Members must act with honesty, truthfulness, and sincerity in all professional and Society-related matters. Integrity forms the foundation of trust and credibility in compliance practice.
Professionalism
Members must maintain the highest standards of professional competence, conduct, and appearance, demonstrating dedication to continuous learning and ethical practice.
Accountability
Members must take responsibility for their actions, decisions, and professional obligations, accepting the consequences of their conduct.
Respect
Members must treat all individuals with dignity, courtesy, and fairness, valuing diversity and fostering an inclusive professional environment.
Excellence
Members must strive for continuous improvement, pursuing the highest quality in their compliance work and professional development.
3. Professional Conduct Standards
3.1 Competence and Diligence
Members must:
- Maintain and enhance professional knowledge and skills through continuous learning
- Perform professional duties with reasonable care and diligence
- Only undertake work they are competent to perform
- Seek guidance or additional expertise when necessary
- Stay informed of regulatory developments and industry best practices
3.2 Ethical Decision-Making
Members must:
- Make decisions based on ethical principles and professional judgment
- Avoid conflicts of interest or disclose them appropriately when they arise
- Refuse to engage in or facilitate unlawful or unethical conduct
- Report serious compliance breaches through appropriate channels
- Prioritize institutional integrity over personal gain
3.3 Confidentiality
Members must:
- Protect confidential information obtained through professional activities
- Not disclose sensitive information without proper authorization
- Respect the confidentiality of CSK member information and discussions
- Use confidential information only for legitimate professional purposes
- Understand the limits of confidentiality in cases of legal or regulatory obligations
3.4 Objectivity and Independence
Members must:
- Maintain professional objectivity in all compliance matters
- Avoid circumstances that compromise independent judgment
- Not accept gifts or benefits that may influence professional decisions
- Declare personal interests that may affect professional judgment
- Provide unbiased advice and recommendations
4. Conduct Within the Society
4.1 Respectful Engagement
Members must:
- Treat fellow members, staff, and stakeholders with respect and courtesy
- Engage in constructive dialogue and professional debate
- Refrain from discriminatory, harassing, or abusive behavior
- Value diverse perspectives and experiences
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive community environment
4.2 Contribution to the Profession
Members are encouraged to:
- Actively participate in CSK activities, events, and initiatives
- Share knowledge and expertise with fellow members
- Mentor junior compliance professionals
- Contribute to the advancement of compliance standards
- Support the Society's mission and objectives
4.3 Representation of CSK
When representing or referring to CSK, members must:
- Accurately represent their membership status and qualifications
- Not misuse CSK's name, logo, or reputation
- Distinguish personal opinions from official CSK positions
- Conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on the Society
- Obtain proper authorization before speaking on behalf of CSK
5. Prohibited Conduct
The following behaviors are strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary action:
- Engaging in fraudulent, dishonest, or deceptive practices
- Violating laws, regulations, or professional standards
- Discriminating against individuals based on race, gender, religion, age, disability, or other protected characteristics
- Harassing, bullying, or intimidating others
- Misrepresenting qualifications, credentials, or experience
- Using CSK membership or resources for improper personal gain
- Disclosing confidential information without authorization
- Engaging in conduct that damages the reputation of CSK or the compliance profession
- Interfering with investigations or disciplinary processes
- Retaliating against those who report ethical concerns
6. Legal and Regulatory Compliance
Members must comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and professional standards relevant to their practice. This includes but is not limited to anti-money laundering regulations, data protection laws, anti-corruption legislation, and industry-specific regulatory requirements.
Members must not knowingly participate in activities that violate legal or regulatory requirements and should report suspected violations through appropriate channels.
7. Reporting Code Violations
Members who become aware of conduct that violates this Code of Conduct are encouraged to report such behavior to the CSK Governing Council. Reports may be submitted confidentially, and CSK is committed to protecting reporters from retaliation.
All reports will be treated seriously and investigated appropriately. Members are expected to cooperate fully with any investigations.
8. Disciplinary Process
8.1 Investigation
Alleged violations of this Code will be investigated by the Governing Council or a designated committee. The accused member will be notified and given an opportunity to respond to allegations.
8.2 Sanctions
Depending on the severity of the violation, disciplinary sanctions may include:
- Formal warning
- Mandatory ethics training or professional development
- Suspension of membership privileges
- Termination of membership
- Reporting to relevant regulatory authorities, where appropriate
8.3 Appeals
Members subject to disciplinary action have the right to appeal decisions to the Governing Council within a specified timeframe.

CSK is committed to regularly reviewing and updating this Code of Conduct to reflect evolving professional standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices. Members will be notified of significant changes and provided with guidance on updated expectations.
